A DIFFERENT TOUCH OF HARI RAYA
The words ‘Hari Raya’ means ‘day of celebration’. The date is determined by sighting of the new moon, on the month of Syawal, in Muslim calendar. The celebration is right after the one-month fasting period (as known as Ramadan) when Muslims fast from dawn till sunset, it is to remind them of the plight of the poor and to cleanse themselves by exercising abstinence and self-control. Hari Raya celebration will lasts for a month but most of the celebration is concentrated in the first three days.
During this joyous occasion of Hari Raya Puasa, while visiting Muslim families, you can expect to taste a wide variety of delicious traditional dishes, such as ketupat, lontong, nasi padang, beef rendang, etc. Apart from these, you may also find some modern and creative recipes in some families.
